Best Words To Use In Your Dating Profile?

online dating profile, best words to use, words to avoid, eHarmony Australia, free online dating advice, free online dating tips

ARE you a quiet, energetic, and respectful kind of guy? How about a spiritual and romantic girl? Well according to eHarmony, chances are that’s why you’re not getting a date!

Data from more than 12,000 Australian online dating members of eHarmony have identified the words that are most likely to attract AND detract attention from potential suitors.

What is clear from eHarmony's research is that “carefully selecting descriptors on your profile page substantially impacts the number of approaches you attract”.  By tweaking the words you choose in your profile might just be the winning edge over your competitors.  From a female perspective, physically fit, optimistic and passionate are qualities that are sought after whereas from a male perspective, sweet, funny and ambitious are the descriptors that might be the difference between you and the next eDater in waiting.

What is clear is that modern day daters are bored by the standard responses and are craving a little more imagination.  I'm sure like me, you have sat nervously in an interview and when asked “…. Now, please tell us a little about yourself....”  without really thinking, we launch into a list of the tried-and-tested; kind, respectful and dependable ….  This is what a potential employer wants to hear isn’t it? Surely it isn’t a bad thing to be caring and modest?   If like me, you have been automatically rolling out these descriptors, since Year Nine RE, it might be a shock to hear that such words aren’t exactly roping in potential partners when it comes to the world of online dating.

But before you rush off and throw in a smorgasbord of adjectives into your profile like “happy, spontaneous and outgoing”, the real magic comes from knowing how to bring these words to life. Otherwise your profile could end up being filled to the brim with cliches and worse you could risk coming off as trying too hard and unauthentic. Being real to you, quirks and all, you are more likely to attract a partner you will be most compatible with. Of course, your profile should be written in a way to sound interesting and standout, however there is a fine line between creative writing to fabricating the truth…

How (Not!) To Write Your Online Dating Profile

You've only got seconds to make a first impression and nailing your profile is essential for successful online dating. Here we provide tips and advice how to create a standout profile and examples of common profile mistakes and how you can avoid them.

Online dating profile example - what (not) to write on your online dating profile on  free and paid Australia dating sites. Online dating advice, online dating tips, online dating strategies.   eDateMate Australia.

Profile Photo

Pictures are part of your first impression; so don’t give your matches a reason to pass you over. This girl's primary photo (which  appears in your matches search results) is  taken too far away and it doesn't 'pop' from the screen with her choice of clothing and colouring. She has missed a crucial opportunity to show off her best assets.

Username

Why work so hard on your profile, only to become an unoriginal Rach1979?  Get creative with a name that evokes positive association, is unique and easy to remember.

Headline

You may be a “happy gal” but don’t waste valuable profile space on a boring headline. Your headline is one extra opportunity to let your personality shine and attract the attention of a potential match.

Write-up

Whilst this profile projects positivity, it is filled to the brim with generic adjectives such as outgoing, funny and adventurous.  Avoid overused phrases clichés and inject your personality and sense of style into your profile write-up. For example, get specific about the type of travelling you do. People act on a dating profile when they can see themselves as part of your story.

Avoid negative statements (and in capitals LIKE YOU ARE YELLING) such as “guys game players need not apply” will scream bitter ex whose not over their past relationships and full of unwanted baggage.

Lastly you should do a spell check on your profile! There are spelling mistakes and short-hand abbreviations in this profile which only detract from the message. People will see the mistake, rather than what you have written.

Why Online Dating is like looking for your Dream Job

Online dating is no different to looking for your dream job and here's why...

Online dating is no different to looking for your dream job. Modern day dating must include a proactive approach and old dating rules tossed out the window.  eDateMate Australia.

Both represent you to a world full of strangers who will decide on whether to call you in for an interview - your first date.

Your CV (profile) will make or break your chances. Profiles consist of a series of photos and a description about you.

During your JOB SEARCH (online dating search) you will checkout multiple job vacancies (profiles) to see if there is a fit for your character and skill.

Your COVER LETTER (first email message) is a teaser that lets someone know you’re serious about getting the job.

If you catch the attention of a COMPANY (potential match) they will go on to read your CV (profile).

Your INTERVIEW (first date) is used by both sides to decide whether it’s worth starting a working (personal) relationship with each other

Why Would I Pay For A Professional Service to Help Me?

Nailing your profile is essential. Think of it this way. If two people applied for the same job, and one person has a resume filled with experience, detailing the many reasons they'd be right for the job, and another person has a resume which reads unoriginal and looks like it was written in five minutes, who do you think will get noticed?  Of course, you wouldn't even get in the door with a poorly presented resume.

You can write the profile yourself or use our personalised service to write it for you, but the important thing is you give it the attention it deserves.

If falling in love is as important to you as finding your ideal job, it's only logical to take the time to make dating profile the best it can be. And if you play to win you'll be one click closer to finding your ideal match.
